We Have a Problem, Houston! (A Call to Prayer!)

April 12, 2011

The RV is listing and it is not a  boat! Prayers to Yahweh are appreciated from those so inclined!

We have had a day and night of pretty solid rain on already saturated ground. The trench along the downhill side of the RV started filling with water. Due to all the digging, there was also a good-sized puddle that formed on the uphill side. The water in the uphill puddle soaked into the ground and went through the ground beneath the RV…softening it even more than it was.

Dave got up early this morning and the RV was leaning. We have two levels on the RV. One is on the refrigerator door and this one is on the wall facing the back of the RV. The downhill side is on the right. As you can see from the bubble, it is definitely leaning. The bubble should be close to the center.

While Dave was working on one side, I started digging so the puddle on the uphill side would drain away. He got the water in the trench to drain away and also started packing dirt underneath the board.

This is after Dave had been working on it for a while. You can see where the dirt beneath the board had fallen away. If it had not been for the board, we would have fallen into the trench!

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Dave heard a still small voice telling him earlier that he should fill in the trench, but he focused instead on the house. I noticed the puddle on the uphill side, but did not drain it. Neither of us expected it to keep raining. We are still learning that “showers” here really means downpour.

Yahweh is good, though. Even though we did not take care of it, He did not allow us to roll. Our situation is still precarious. Dave is going to go buy a jack to try to try to jack it up with more boards. Filling in the trench helps, but it is still soft mud.

That’s a bit scary. And muddy! Let’s hope you get into a nice new home soon.

Very muddy, Charles! And yes, a bit scary. We are doing OK now…still a little off level…but at least we don’t appear to be moving!
